Future trends: Basic income
Loyens & Loeff will be hosting the AmCham event ‘Future Trends’ on Thursday 5 October 2017 and Filip Saelens, Partner and Head of the Employment & Benefits Team, will be moderating the panel discussion.
The idea of a Universal Basic Income, granting an unconditional or minimum income to every citizen, has been around for centuries, but is becoming ever more relevant. Is it the way forward for our society? Can it help solve societal problems such as inequality and jobs disappearing through automation? Or is it not the solution we need and a pipe dream that the government can ill afford?
In short, it remains a controversial topic of which the pros and cons will be discussed at a panel discussion during this year’s edition of the annual Future Trends Evening. The panel is followed by a Q&A session.
- Professor Philippe Van Parijs, Political Philosopher and Social Scientist at Catholic University of Louvain and Co-Founder of the Basic Income Earth Network
- Ivan Van de Cloot, Chief Economist at Itinera Institute
- Filip Saelens, Local Partner and Head of Employment & Benefits Practice Group at Loyens & Loeff (moderator)
